A focus on details

The Battlestar Galactica Mark II Viper was one of my first builds, with a very limited selection of available elements – so I have made a a lot of new versions as more elements became available. I settled on a real-life built design that incorporated a lot of curved slopes and SNOT (studs not on top) elements. When it came time to convert the design to digital, I used the Studio parts library to make some minor changes to get the shape of the curved design perfect and remove some of the exposed studs. You can see here how accurate it is in comparison to the TV show.

Here you can see the non-digital version which is very similar but slightly less detailed.

The design process

The challenges of this LEGO® build were the engines, the tail at the top and the nose. This MOC was a lot of trial and error to get the shape and colours just right. It was also a bit of a challenge to incorporate the iconic red colour scheme. I ended up settling on a LEGO Technic® element for the engines – which shows the diverse ways each LEGO® element can be used!

I decided to remove the retractable landing gear in favour of a more accurate nose section, and a smooth underside of the Viper.
