The Design Process

This LEGO® Stargate MOC was a unique creation for me, because it is the only MOC I have designed digitally, ordered the pieces and then built. I accomplished this by breaking it down into modules. Each module either had a chevron or was blank. I then designed these modules digitally and ordered the missing parts.

The design process was straightforward because I only designed one of each module, instead of the full Stargate. Designing a ring of that size in any LCAD program is challenging. I made the decision to not add the glyphs because I try to avoid making custom stickers as they can look tacky. I intend to look into printing the bricks in the future

The Stargate has all 9 chevrons, equally placed around the ring – another challenge as it is not an even number that matches the number of modules.

Adding the SGC Ramp

Once I built the gate, I decided it would be a better display model with the ramp from Stargate Command. I originally planned to just add the ramp, but when I looked at the details of the gate room I realised that the ramp is part of a bigger plate underneath the gate (which also conveniently holds it into place as a stand).

This wasn’t too challenging, though as always I focused on detail – aiming to get the ramp just right. This included the ladders and stairs and the supports under the ramp. The biggest challenge was getting detailed images of the base of the Stargate (including behind the gate itself) in the Gateroom.
