The Design Process
The Mark VII Viper was a really fun build. Aside from the centre (with the cockpit) most of the MOC is built using SNOT (Studs not on top) which allowed me to get the angles just right. The Viper is an elegant design with a lot of curves that are difficult to replicate in LEGO® bricks. While the end design still has studs showing and is “blocky” I was happy that it was immediately recognisable as the Mark VII Viper!
I have gone for a high level of detail with an articulated cockpit, a pilot and the guns on the end of each wing. It also has retractable landing gear. It’s ready to battle the Cylons!
While I loved my original design, I wanted the nose section to be more accurate, so I ordered more curve elements and used a SNOT technique to articulate the shape of the nose section and get it just right! I also removed the landing gear so I could make the underside of the viper stronger and more accurate.
