The Design Process
Sting is a unique sword from the Lord of the Rings, used by Frodo and Bilbo. It was challenging to replicate with LEGO® bricks because of its unique shape, but its size made it an easier build than other swords!
I made the decision to leave out a few iconic details, the blue glow and the engraved runes. While it was disappointing to leave out these details, I couldn’t see a way to incorporate the glow practically (or build the blade with trans-blue elements). The engraved runes could have been accomplished with stickers or printed tiles, but I felt it would look odd without tiling the entire blade.
I made sure the shape of the blade was just right to ensure this LEGO® MOC was easily recognisable as Sting! Given that it is a small sword, I didn’t have to reinforce the hilt or make the blade thicker. It is still strong and stable, and can be “swooshed” constantly without breaking, which is of course a must for a LEGO® sword!
